Details
The Address is: Piso 2, 3 a (this means Floor 2, Flat 3) 35 Ronda Universidad Barcelona Spain 08007. It is situated just at the edge of the Plaza Catalunya, a short walk from the terminus of the A1 airport bus. It's next to the Easy net cafe too, which is useful and easy to spot. On arriving at the airport step outside the terminal and you will see the bus stop for the A1 bus. It costs 3.60 euros for a ticket. You want the last stop where everyone gets off and the bus stops. This is the Plaza Catalunya, which is the main square. Cross the square and go towards the right. Ronda Universidad joins the square in the corner on the right. Check a map before you leave.
When you reach the block the front door from the street will be open; if it is a week day office hours are 9am-2pm & 5pm-8pm and Juan will be there as concierge inside. Say hi (Hola!). Juan does not speak English…. Outside those hours the Yale key fits the front door lock. The small key fits the mailbox in the lobby. When you get to the second floor there are two doors. The first leads to a small lobby for apartments 3 and 4 (the neighbours - a nice Catalan family) and the second door to the flat itself. The two keys are almost identical. Trial and error.
Arrival.
On arrival you will find beds made up with clean linen. There is milk in the fridge. Clean towels are on the beds.
Keys.
PLEASE CALL A WEEK BEFORE TO ARRANGE POSTAGE OF THE KEYS
There are three keys you will need. 1. Yale key is for the door from the street into the building. 2. The second key is for the door to a small lobby to flats 3 and 4 3. The third key is for the flat. In an emergency Juan has a set of keys.
Rules.
There is only one rule in the flat, so that is easy to remember. NO SMOKING please. You can smoke on the terrace, but not in the flat. Please don't leave cigarette stubs on the terrace.
Hot Water.
The boiler is automatic. There should be hot water at all times when the tap is switched on.
Heating and aircon.
The system is complex so the simple instructions are:
If you want to be hotter. Turn on the heating. Press the radiator sign on the console by the door to the flat once. The pad will give you a message Calificacion si, which means - heating yes. When you want to turn the heating off, press the same button once. Calificacion no.
If you want to be cooler. Turn on the aircon. Press the dollar sign on the same console once. The pad will respond refrigeracion si. To turn it off press the same button again. If you don´t follow this find a small child who will be able to explain it to you.
Aircon is expensive so please don't leave it on when you go out or overnight. If you do leave it on when you depart we will ask you for a contribution! Please don't touch the control boxes in the rooms on the walls - there is no need.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. Please go ahead and use the pots, pans etc. There is a dishwasher.
There are towels - you will only need to bring beach towels. Please don't use the towels in the flat for the beach.
Rubbish.
Please empty the bins by taking rubbish outside to the street. This is important as the flat isn't always cleaned immediately after your departure. Turn left and place in the large grey wheelie bins ten yards away. You can see these from the balconies.
There are many books and leaflets on all aspects of Barcelona in the flat.
Shopping Basics.
The closest shop for basics is round the corner first left from the flat. This is VIPS which has a small (expensive) shop at the rear of the store. Best place for shopping is the Boqueria market half way down the Ramblas on the right. There is a good Supermarket in the basement of Corte Ingles in the Plaza Catalunya.
Departure.
There are just a couple of things for you to do when you leave.
1. Check no rubbish left to smell in the flat. Please check the fridge/freezer too! - take away all your perishables! 2. Check air con is off 3. Bring the keys back and return to Sarah on your arrival in the UK for future visitors. 4. Please leave towels in a pile in the kitchen, strip bedding and leave sheets in the kitchen, too.
If you enjoy your stay, please fill in the visitors' book.
Have a great holiday.
